Well, here's more information. On June 30th I met with the doctor who will be doing the radiation and he did say that sd and radiation don't mix well and I might get scar tissue and it may affect my esophagus where I will have to have it stretched. I know some of you have been through that. I will have six weeks of radiation, five days a week in combination with chemo.
On July 1st I had a port inserted for chemo and any other stuff they want to inject or remove from me. My vessels on hands and wrists are not doing so well and it takes multiple tries to find the right vein.
On July 8th I get fitted for my form for radiation treatment. They will do all the measurements and checks and balances and that's how I will be for every treatment. My arms will be raised somewhat over my head for the treatments and my fibro is not going to like that but the treatments should only last 15 to 30 minutes from arrival to departure. They said the radiation might give me a sore throat and it will feel like I have a lump in my throat. At least it will all be over by the end of summer and I can recover for a trip to Disney World in November or December. That is the goal I'm working for right now!
Thank you for all of your prayers!

Peggy I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering if you had started treatments yet. I'm sure it will not be any fun but your attitude is so good you will get through all of this. Keep thinking about that trip south in the fall. Be well and be strong!

I think I should be giving you an update. I have had 28 radiation treatments directed just right of the center of my chest, where they removed the mass of lymph nodes. I have also had a total of 12 chemo sessions. Right now my oncologist is consulting with a highly respected lung cancer specialist in Iowa City to see if he feels I should have additional chemo treatments. My oncologist said he would give them to me in a flash if I didn't have scleroderma, but is hesitant because it could cause major problems. This would be more aggressive chemo drugs. So, now we wait and see what is recommended.
I am doing very well. Totally bald!! But it does make getting ready in the morning much easier!
My esophagus has finally healed from all of the radiation. For a while it was very painful to swallow. Heads up....I am doing good!

Off to Iowa City today for that second opinion to see if I should have more chemo and/or if it will cause more problems because of the scleroderms. Will keep you posted!!

The lung cancer specialist in Iowa City said no more chemo. He thinks it would do more harm than good. I do need a ct scan so that should be set up in the next week or so.
I see my regular oncologist on Tuesday and will find out what kind of follow up treatment schedule I will be on.
I wonder what it will be like to go a week without seeing a doctor?
I do so appreciate all the prayers. All of us need them.
