The PET scan showed a spot on lower right lung and enlarged lymph node and they used the word metastisized to lymph node. I just had a biopsy on Thursday and am waiting for lab results. Will keep you posted, but it doesn't look good right now and I am concerned about any treatment with fibrosis already present.

Dr. called last night and said the biopsy showed suspicious cells but not enough tissue for a diagnosis! Now I have to have another needle biopsy or a surgical biopsy. Why can't they get it right the first time. This is really messing with my mind!!
They are going to get me a consult appt with a surgeon to help me make a decision.
I cannot even begin to express how angry I am right now.
Will keep you posted.

I know what you mean. Rheumy #1 was like that order a test and at the next appointment he would order another test. Why not just get it done at once. My GP takes what I feel is a more realistic approach. I had a "thing" on my face that needed a biopsy and he said he could take a small sample or just cut what he thought would be all of it out, then if the report came back that it exceeded the margins he would have to take some more. He figured he could most likely get it all and I only had to heal once. He did that and he got it all. Done. Trust me I was nervous about getting the results for that little spot, I'm sure waiting for your results is much more nerve wracking. Good luck Peggy

Peggypansy, Thinking of you.....I did have a lung biopsy instead of a needle biopsy. The location made it difficult to get the needle biopsy. Mine turned out to be SD and not lung cancer but that was a question they were talking about. It wasn't the nicest surgery I've had but it wasn't all that bad. It was several days in the hospital...I had several more for I kept leaking and they weren't sure what was leaking, the lung or the surgery. It turned out to be the surgery.

I meet with the surgeon on Tues, May 17th and we will go from there on getting a surgical biopsy date.
It seems to go: appt., wait, appt., wait, appt., wait.
I figure it will be at least a week until they get the biopsy scheduled then another 3-7 days to get the result. Then another appt to see what the next step is. It just keeps dragging on and on.
Let's see what happens at my next appt. on Tuesday!!!!

I met with the thoracic surgeon yesterday and from all of the test results, minus a biopsy, he is 95% sure I have Stage II, non-small cell cancer.
He will remove the lower right lobe and affected lymph nodes and after approximately 30 days I will have chemo to kill any microscopic cancer cells. There will be a biopsy at the start of the surgery to verify that it is cancer.
I don't have an appointment yet, but he will call me today to schedule it. I will keep you posted.
I am feeling very optimistic. ;D
