So in Shameless Troll #6 we looked at inside the home issues. For Shameless Troll #7 what things outside the home cause us the most grief? I would guess that many of the home things would also be problems outside the home like door knobs are door knobs where ever but there must be some things peculiar to outside.

In troll #6 Deanna mentioned car door handles I would have to agree with that. The ones on the outside of my work vans are vertical and not all that large. With my curved fingers when I open them my fingers don't go under all the way and my fingers slip out sometimes and the handle snaps back giving the ends of my fingers a nasty thump.

Yes, getting in and out of a car with a cane etc., gracefully. Suppose I am lucky to be able to even get in and out of a car, never mind gracefully. Keeping up with others when walking on a busy, city street. Finding items on a restaurant menu that I can eat without problems after, i.e., non-spicy items. Getting out of a booth in a restaurant. Walking anywhere for any distance, as after 1/3 of a city block. The legs don't like that. Nancy

What causes the most grief outside with this disease? I agree that car doors are one of the worst...I end up with quite a nice whack on the fingers and that smarts for awhile. Driving without cruise control on my vehicle...I would not drive if I did not have it, because my feet become almost numb and then the pain starts. I do not like walking on uneven ground...even in my own yard and garden I have to be real careful or I tip over or fall down-Winter is really bad, especially here in central MN! Trying to get out of a restaurant booth, can be murder and I do not have a cane or anything yet...just moving out and up is a struggle. Doing any kind of shopping whether for clothes or groceries...I get tired and my legs & knees start to hurt, not to mention my feet go numb...so far the longest I can go shopping is about an hour and then I need to sit for a bit...on top of this, getting in and out of a vehicle gets to be really painful-it gets to a point I cannot bend my knees to get into the vehicle, the pain is excrutiating. These are just some of the things that come to mind quickly, but I know there are more.

Oh how soon I forget! Must be because it is summer and warm. Starting in a month or so probably my Raynauds will become a problem again. Not that I don't have episodes this time of year but they are brief and not much of a problem. That will change soon I guess.

well...for me the reynauds is driving me nuts on the right hand....thus alot of things tend to drive me nuts since I'mright handed...car doors snapping back...guitar strings....simple things sometimes like keyboards here on my laptop... but on the outside I have to handle lines and hoses on the boat...which with cold water...sometimes will make my hands react to the cold water....now..since I do most of the driving and docking...I have to rely on marsha to handle lines when we dock.....which when the weather isn't cooperating...I have to do double duty...dock the boat...run off the boat and get hold of lines..then hook pwr...water...to the shore station...get things up and running...set up the sat dish.....turn all the systems on...etc...then when we come back..drive the boat..dock...get it picked up by the giant fork lift...then unload the boat....hook up pwr to the boat and align the boat's systems for it being on blocks....wash the boat..wax the boat....change the oils....tune up...make repairs.....plus come home...grab a shower....then start the laundry ...mow lawns...maintain cars....wash cars........well..you get the drift...I can't stop or let things go....plus go to work each day... all the while not letting SD or reynauds slow me down....then there's the endless typing I have to do with moderating this site and another boat site......... sorry for this one being long...but I can see that yes..reynauds will slow some down...but I can't afford to stop.....or slow down..

I am failing at work with my concentration. I have a hard time keeping on track and the fog is really bad. It has gotten to the point where the others have to check my work before it goes out. How long do you think they will keep me? Shopping for me is exhausting as well. My legs hurt too. Thats intesting because my diagnosis is only morphea. I wonder many times how much morphea can cause.

For me it's the grocery store and it ALWAYS being too cold!! My hands really hurt when I have to reach into a freezer case, but I find that the grocery stores are just always too cold for me! I usually go prepared- wearing a sweatshirt and warm clothing- but if I ever have to just "run in to get something" and am not dressed appropriately then I really suffer! I have to say- sometimes I get sick and tired of everyone giving me funny looks with my heavy clothing on when it's 90 degrees and humid out- and then there are times when it just doesn't bother me (guess it depends on my mood!). Also, as was previously said- I get exhausted from too much shopping! One hour would definitely be my limit- unfortunately, my daughter LOVES to shop and enjoys when I come so I try not to dissapoint her (usually go to sleep REALLY early those nights!)
During the cold months I basically stay inside as much as possible!- Adriane

For me shopping is the pits. It's bad enough that I have to wear extra clothing "just in case" it's cold in the store. Then I have to use a cart to keep my balance, (of course I always end up with the cart with the wheel out of line). If the basket is half full I have a real hard time maneuvering it, it's just simply too heavy, it just about kills my arms. The walking is also misery on my back and legs. I don't think I could last an hour if I had to. Getting out of my car is hard fo me, Hubby has a PT Cruiser and it's easier to enter and exit because it's higher. That's a few things I can think of offhand, I'm sure there are more.
Jeff, you come up with some great Trolls!! Keep 'um up!

STEVE201: I took ADALAT which is a calcium channel blocker. Took away ALL symptoms of Raynauds, meaning the cold, blue hands. Now, I did still have Neuropathy, but I took NEURONTIN for that. Hope this helps!

Last week, I wore a pair of thin "tightly knit" gloves in the frozen food aisle of our local grocery (as I was browsing), a parent of my daughter's friend recognized me and said, "look....your honoring Michael Jackson". Ha....Ha....not funny!! I wasn't in the mood . Sorry...just had to vent! My 12 yr. old just giggled ;D.....

Some of mine are: Shopping in any store; too cold, have to park between doors and cart return;must have a cart to lean against as get too tired and legs want to give out on me. Longest I can last is an hr like the rest of you. The worst is packing my own groceries, most stores here don't pack your groceries for you anymore Gardening/yard work; gardens look like fields, get dizzy bending over/legs tire out/out of breath/sore hands after pulling a few weeds Driving; not too many problems getting in and out or with opening doors depending on how I'm feeling that day.Had to buy a very thick padded stearing wheel cover otherwise cannot grasp steering wheel, cannot hope into hubby's car just to go to the corner store; can't walk far if my life depended on it; trying to grasp envelopes out of the mailbox. Hate the thought of winter coming...... Sports; can't fish anymore too hard to hold rod and cast Cleaning snow and ice off car.....wish we had a garage....yuck
Sure I could think of more but I would be going on and on. Sorry I missed the indoor troll.

I can help with the steering wheel...some handicapped people use what we call..the suicide knob....I know....not a cool name..but it's a steering knob that you can get at any marine store for about 50 bucks....it clamps onto your steering wheel and you can steer the car using this knob..

I've heard of that steering knob. Is it legal though? I would have to check up here I guess. It depends on the size of the knob too if I can grasp it........................
Behave Steve...................I can just imagine the type of come back you have for this one...LOL
