Hi everyone, Does anyone wear hand braces at nite and does it work to prevent more curling? My hands are curled for several yrs now,but the left hand seems to be curling more lately. Also what about hand surgery to fuse joints open? Thanks

I have 3 different splints that I wear: 1st set is for the space between the thumb and index finger; these I wear for 15 minutes 2x a day, 2nd set is for stretching my fingers to the longest w/o over doing it, plus they are adjustable(also 2x a day at 15min), and the 3rd set is for at night and I wear a cut out cotton sock with them with either bag balm or cocoa balm cream. The first and second set are made by the occupational therapist that has given me hand exercises that I still use 2x a day. My night splints were ordered by my occupational therapist with my help and input; then when they came in; she helped me fit them for the best way for my hands and disease As for the surgery to straighten the fingers; I would try to avoid it. The reason I say this is because what I have heard and read about this procedure is once the surgery is done to straighten your fingers; you cannot close them. I would do some research on the surgery and splints on the following website: www.sclero.org/By the way, I also use a therapy ball and that has helped strengthen my fingers; that has helped me to do more things in my kitchen and in my garden too, plus daily living. I hope this helps you and if there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know -becjo

I had a splint once, but could not use it as it hit directly on one of my finger ulcers. Now that I am almost in remission, my hands are still a little curled from the middle knuckle to fingertips but the rest is straight. Still can't lay my hands flat on a desk tho.
As for surgery, I am not a fan.
