hi guys (and gals ).......jeff always has tender/cool feet, so he NEVER goes without shoes or slippers. a couple of days ago he noticed a "pit" type sore on his heel that is really sore if touched "just right". i'm thinking it is an ulcer of sorts, but he's never had one of those on the bottom of his foot before. he has hard callous type things on some of his toes, but this on the bottom is new. thanks all, laurie

Hi laurie- As far as feet experience....Jeff should call a podiatrist. I see a podiatrist every 5 weeks to prevent callous build-up and pressure on the balls/heels due to foot pad loss w/sclero. He gently removes excess skin and encourages me to call him if I ever get a sore spot on either foot. I also use a prescription "softening" cream, it works well. He sees several sclero patients with foot/toe ulcers and wants to be preventative. I am so fearful of getting sore spots on my feet (haven't yet) that I always wear a slip on sneaker (New balance has wider toe box for our toes...goodbye cute scandals). I have a pair for inside and a pair for outside, instead of slippers. They are more protective (save my slippers for shower only). Anyway, I would call a podiatrist asap to check Jeff's "paws".....hope this helps.....Kathleen xoxoxoxo

thanks guys (and kathleen ). i really don't know what to think of it, but it does not appear to be a wart......more of a "pit", but doesn't look red or infected either. if it doesn't get any worse, we'll wait until he sees the doc next month. guess we'll just keep an eye on it for now. kathleen, that might be a good idea for jeff to see a podiatrist for those callouses (and yepper, he does wear new balance shoes already.......they are the only kind he'll buy because of the room in them). laurie

Laurie - The warts I get on my feet are kind of a pit, look like a crater. I had them on my feet when I was young and had them removed. Once in a while I get one again. I have one now that I am working on with the do it yourself freeze it stuff. Maybe thats not it but it does sound similar to mine.

my feet too hurt and I can no longer go barefooted. I have a callous on my right foot that comes and goes. Alot of people ask me if my toes curl like my fingers which cracks me up. How bad is his Raynauds in his feet, be careful of infection?

My feet hurt so much for 2 years that I could not go barefoot, but could not stand to have anything touching my feet such as shoes or even slippers. Soooo, I LIVED in RAINBOW flipflops. They are soft and have an arch which most flipflops don't. Now, I can actually wear shoes and also walk in my bare feet once in awhile. However, I still rely on my Rainbows for long distance walking.

Hi Laurie, I hope that it's nothing serious and that you guys do find out what it is.
Kathleen, great idea to go to a podiatrist. Think I'm going to start calling around to find one who is familiar with sd.
I too also have a lot of pain in my feet. I have raynaud's in all toes. Also have had long time problems with callouses on my feet. Lately having more problems on the bottom outsides on both feet. I don't wear sandals anymore, odd time if temp is really high. Always in heavy socks and thick slippers, even in middle of summer. Have had pedicures done but maily do myself, think it's time to find a podiatrist. Thanks for info.

My feet hurt all the time, even wake me out of a sound sleep. I went to a podiatrist and have a couple cracked bones (one in each foot), i broke my rt foot last year running into the vacuum cleaner. They did bone scans on my feet no sign of osteoporosis, they are fitting me with orthotics. my guess is its from the meds everyone agrees with me except the rheumatologist. But I agree it’s time to see a podiatrist Hope this helps, will keep you in my thoughts and prayers Little red

LAURIE: You might have a problem getting a guy to do this, but could you take him for a pedicure? I have been going to the same place for about 14 or 15 years. They were all with me thru the Scleroderma so they have helped my feet a lot.----Now you know way more than you ever wanted to know about me.................

actually, no, we haven't been to the doc yet. i don't think i'll get him to go until his check up next month. he said it isn't any worse, but......in his words........."they all go through their stages". i know when he says that, that he doesn't want to discuss it any further. once we talk to the rheumy, i'll let you guys know. thanks for everything.....and cubby....you are probably right about not being able to get him in for a pedicure, but i can try.....lol. you know how men are about that "girlie" stuff. lol. laurie

Laurie, what about you giving him an at home pedicure? That's what I did for my Father when he was really sick with cancer and the meds were effecting his feet. I just made sure that any tools I used were steralized and was very very careful with his feet. He wouldn't go see anyone but would let me do it. Just a thought.
