I'm not sure this is a sclero discussion but here goes. My rheumy just put me on Neurontin. I'm sure some of you have taken it. Did you have any side effects?? What should I expect from this med? The doc is giving it to me because of severe pain I've just recently aquired! May even need a muscle biopsy, UGH. Not looking forward to that!! I'm interested in anything you may say!
Thanks bunches.

I was on Neurontin many years ago and I must say it did help with the pain in my hands/fingers. My biggest problem with the scleroderma is with my Raynaud's. The doses tend to get obscene-sounding, so do not be alarmed by the numbers! Another fyi about the drug: it must be tapered down when coming off of it to prevent other side effects. I didn't know this at the time but was lucky as I didn't have any further problems.

Sherion, I have never been on it,but I know 2 others who have been (both for quite some time). They both love it-say it REALLY helps with pain!I hadn't heard about the tapering off part-but maybe that's because they're both still on it !! Goodluck to you-let us know how it goes. -Adriane

Sherion,
I have been taking Lyrica for SD-associated peripheral neuropathy (PN). The Lyrica has really helped me. I know that some others have been on Neurontin for their associated PN.
Now, after 2 yrs of AP, I believe my PN is improving and I am weaning off Lyrica (while I use an electric device called the ReBuilder) for my residual PN in my feet. I had a few procedures, including some skin biopsies, to determine that I had PN. In hindsight I don't think these procedures were worth the cost and pain.

Randy, Interesting info about the procedures and biopsies!!!!! I tried Lyrica for my fibro but had too many side effects. I was walking into walls and had terrible blury vision, not counting the puffy face it gave me! I sure hope this Neuronton works. By the way, does it work right away or does it take a while before it works? I seem to be feeling a bit better but still in pain. Don't know if my imagination is working overtime!
Thanks Randy.

I don't know about the Neurontin, but for me the Lyrica works right away (within 1 1/2 hr) and is pretty good for 6 hrs.

I LOVED NEURONTIN! At one time, I was on really really high doses of it. That was inm 2005 when I was reallyt really sick and spent most of the year in bed. Neurontin is actually an anti-seizure drug which was discovered to help with pain.
Lyrica never did work for me. Hope that helps!

Cubby, Did it take a while to work or was it a quick acting med? Thank goodness my doc told me to take it at bedtime! It makes me dizzy as all getout. I woke in the night to use the restroom and almost fell off the toilet! LOLOLOL Not sure I could ever take it in the daytime. He has me on the lowest dose for now just to see how I handle it. Thanks for your input!!

It is very fast acting. When I was taking high doses, I was in bed most of the time at first. Later, once I got used to it, no side effects.

Good luck with the Neurontin. It's a tricky drug, but when it works, it WORKS!

My hubby who does not have SD is on Neurontin for nerve damage to the leg. He's been on it a long time and hasn't had any problems with it per say. I think that is the one that makes him tired so he takes it at night. (Not home or I'd ask him)
