Okay I don't know how much of this is from SD...I am soooo cold!
I used to love 55 degrees! now if it is less than 65 I freeze...in the house, I have to crank up the heat.. I do still get hot flashes due to fluctuating hormones (menopause)...but the cold is awful...I can't see to find a happy medium... I am feeling quite anxious due to the winter to come...If I am freezing at 45, what will I be like when it get down to 20... Nancy~.

I know what your are talking about Nancy this current NE weather is awful. Today here it was cold and damp with 40 mph winds. Probably a bit warmer than where you are Nancy but more windy and damp. YUCK So much for global warming. Thought we would have palm trees here by now. We were roughing in a new house today and I was not very comfortable and it is only the middle of October.
For me I'm sure most of the cold is from SD. I began to not be able to tolerate the cold several years before my SD went active. I figured it was just an age thing. The good news for me anyway is that my treatment has increased my circulation, in my view anyway. The last couple of winters I have been much warmer than before. In the summer I even sweat now and again. Still not back to the old days but much more comfortable still cold but better than before. The winter I was suffering with GAVE was the worst. That was the winter my SD was at its peak and then severe anemia talk about cold. My hands and fingers are still cold because of the Raynauds, which has not improved. We go up north a lot in the winter and have a wood stove, it feels so good to get that place up to 75 and so dry. It is heaven.

Nancy gotta love it...I'm always cold...in my office I have a heater cranked up to Nuke!!....but I have a really narrow band of temperature that I can stand....if it gets too cold...I freeze..if it gets too hot...I'm boiling.......in the shower..the temps of the water is real critical.......I pray to god nobody flushes a toilet!!! I used a very small space heater at my feet when sitting, particularly when I was teaching or now at the computer. That helped me when I was sitting but the difference when I got up was a real change! Also, putting on layers has helped me. Having the sleeveless tank tops under my shirt has helped also....the layered feeling!
Of course, Nancy, those nice little pocket microwave bags you made for me are helping me now!

Hey Nancy- Me too. I do all of the following at various times: I have a vortex heater., hot hands, all of my shoes are either sheepskin or fleece lined with a wide toe, fleece or cozy soft sweaters. I guess that is it. I've noticed when I can stay warm my whole system seems to be calmer. I hate getting out of bed mostly because of the cold. I also have anemia and thyroid issues none of which helps. Oh- almost forgot I found a muff purse that I always carry. Take care! Lynn

Of course, Nancy, those nice little pocket microwave bags you made for me are helping me now! grammie awww. glad they helped.... ;D For anyone else, they are made from cattle corn, or feed corn... Use a nice heavy fabric, as cotton is too thin...or double or triple the cotton... heat 'em in the microwave....

The cold weather is definitely a BIG issue for me! (As a matter of fact- just several days ago I told my husband that now I have to wait 7 months until I can go outside and enjoy things again!!). Over the years I have gotten quite good at layering my clothing and finding the best products for me- but sometimes it's certainly a real pain!! When it's gets down into the 30's and below I find that I wear so many layers of clothing I can barely move ! Sometimes I look like the Pillsbury dough boy I have so much clothing on! Sleeping has become difficult as well- when I'm not moving and my body temp drops I get SOOO cold that sometimes it's unbearable. I've taken to wearing a little hat and even gloves to sleep when it's super cold. Not that attractive- but who cares? This is definitely one aspect of having sd that I am really effected by!- Adriane

I guess...it's part of the big picture...UGH... I have become such a stick in the mud...I choose to stay home so many times, whereas before I would jump at the chance for a hike...walk, "adventure"..... damn disease!

I was commenting to my husband that for winter exersice, maybe we should get some snowshoes and walk across the lake or hike the island. He gently gave me a hug and asked why I was wearing mittens at forty-five degrees...... Oh well, nice thought!

Grammie everyone is different and my hands seize up pretty regularly. I have lots of trouble with my hands at work in the cold but I can not work with heavy gloves. For play though I seem to have better luck as I can really dress for it. Maybe you could rent some snowshoes to give it a try first. You will be moving around so you may be pleasantly suprised. When I snowboard I wear mittens with two hand warmer pacs in each mitten - actually toe warmers as they seem to be hotter to me. The toe warmers don't last quite as long but are warmer and have a sticky side so the don't move around in the mitten. You have been on the mino a while now too and I would hope you might be warmer this winter, my hands are not but I have noticed the past couple of winters the rest of me is warmer. You are in snow country now might as well take advantage if you can.

As I get better, I'm finding I can tolerate some cold...yah! It sure had been better so far this winter with the wind a strong howl off the water but I can venture outside briefly for the mail and not have to bundle up. Sure is nice!!!

Thats what I found too Grammie. My body is much warmer the past couple of winters. My hands have lagged behind though. I found it an odd feeling that my body was now warm but my hands would be hurting badly. The past few weeks have been cold here like I'm sure it has been up in your neck of the woods. Out on the job I have been working currently in an old house that has been gutted for a renovation, no insulation yet and no side wall so the heat does not stay long. I have a 75,000 btu heater that I put in my work area with me and I stay in my bubble. I can only wear fingerless gloves to work so this is the only way I can do it but it is working. The rest of me is OK just my hands that are the issue, but I think that even my hands are somewhat better of late.
Enjoy the outside when you can. Have you been snow shoeing yet?

No, snowshoeing. My husband laughs but I did see that January 9th at more than 100 spots one can try free snowshoeing. It is called Winter Trail Days. Check out wintertrails.org for locations. I suggested to Ralph that we try it. Am going to check it out anyway.

My coldness is over. My raynauds acts up a little bit once in a while, but I actually can go out in the cold with no gloves. I did two things that helped: 1. grape seed extract 200 mg per day--This increases your circulation, thus making you warmer. 2. Infrared sauna faithfully 2 to 3 times per week.
My body feels normal again!! JoAnn
