ok..since Jeff has been trolling these waters for information..the last one got me to thinking....and once that happens...watch out....my 2 little braincells will collide and...well..lets just say...it ain't pretty.... so...my question is ...who is excersizing on a regular basis, what kind of excersizes are you doing ...and do you see a benefit... ? for me ..I was going to PT twice a week...plus all the lawn mowing and work on the boat...(which is excersize alone )..I've since slowed down on it but think I gotta kick that back up a notch....or 2....anyways...I'm really active and have always been active...but this SD has slowed me down a lot..when I was going to pt at my worst..I did notice alot of change and yes ..things improved.......better strength..better mobility...blood flow increased....better sleeping....etc hense the questions above....tell us if your excersizing on a regular basis ...what your doing and if your seeing any improvements... Steve

I love to exercise, but unfortunately every time I myself back on track, I get sick again. I have been doing some yoga. It helps my balance and helps strengthen and tone the muscles. Last week I couldn't do it because I was sick again. I started again this morning and didn't do that well.
I also like to walk on the treadmill, but haven't done that since the first time I had pneumonia this summer. I plan to start tomorrow. I have a stress test in a few weeks so I hope I can get my lungs up to par. I had to cancel one scheduled a few weeks ago because of my relapse of pneumonia.
Exercising just makes me feel better all around. That's why I hate it when I am too sick for it.

I try to exercise every morning! Usually I run on the treadmill (have killed myself several times when I run outdoors!), but when I'm having a flareup or just feel crappy I will walk instead. I find that getting my blood moving really helps the mobility in my fingers! Prior to exercise my fingers are stiff and puffy, but afterwards they are much more supple and completely useable! My doctors have told me that they believe the cardiovascular workouts have helped to keep my heart and lungs healthy- so I will continue to do it as long as possible.
I must add, however, that some days I really pay the price for exercising! I will sometimes find myself completely wiped out later in the day. Unfortunately- there's no telling when this will happen. Once again, with the disease there's no rhyme or reason to it!- Adriane

I know this sounds like a "typical excuse" but, I am always so dang busy running around with my daughters or at work/volunteering/household and yard chores, that I relish any/all "down time", so I can rest or read. Do I get my heart rate up? Or....exercise, like "work-outs"....not really...although, I should. When the weather turns colder (ughhh..I love the summers and being outdoors), I usually resort to walking laps around my basement just to get my blood flowing... Kathleen

I agree with Kath.
The good news is that I renewed my gym membership and hope to get back into that habit since I have also been "lazy" keeping busy with those other obligations of daily life. With temps in the 40's this morning, I am afraid that those lazy days of summer (and reading on the deck) may be in dreadfully short supply! I know how much better I feel once I get into a workout routine, but the trick is getting started and sticking with it...!!!

I go to water aerobics every day, Monday thru Friday for an hour. I do all of it in the deep end of the pool, so I am not jumping on my knee replacement. I hold myself up with water barbells. I started at the end of August 3 years ago. I even go every day when I travel to Delaware. It makes such an amazing difference in my body!!! Also keeps my fingers from swelling and even helps with the puffs under my eyes!!!!!

I do the nustep for at least a half hour a day. The treadmill bangs the heck out of my already crappy feet. I used to do water aerobics and really miss it. They changed the class times and I am at work now when the class is held.

Isn't this crazy? ? We are often too sick to work out, yet we need to work out to try to help ourselves to get better!!!!

From NOvember through May, I did some sort of working out every other day and felt much better. This summer I've done little....yes, I've been swimming and kayaking but not as a work out. I know it is vital to keeping strong. Started walking again a week ago. You've got me moving................I'll go do my walk now!(ugh)
bye, Grammie

Does chasing around a 2, 7 and 8 year old count as exercise? Just kidding.
I am distance runner and really miss running. I tried once but I really overdid it and paid for it for a few days. So I am walking and will slowly work my way up to running again. I am also signing up for some yoga later this month.
I also signed up for indoor soccer. I'm not quite up to playing out yet so I am playing in net. Once I build up my stamina, I will play the occasional game out.
One of my old hockey teammates also asked me if I would be on their sub-list if they were short players, so I agreed. Hopefully I'm not getting in over my head! I just know that if I feel much better when I am active.

I walk the dog almost every day, some days can even go up hill. Since a car accident I had a couple of years ago my muscles seemed to have turned to mush, can't seem to build up stamina. I feel so much better when I move around and want to as long as possible. About a year ago tried swimming could bearly move for about a wk after, can't do weights at all. I did get a treadmill & excerise bike for the winter months when I can't get outside. I too pay the price if I over do it and pay it days after. Also if I sit too long for scrap booking, quilting, work its the same thing lots of pain & stiffness.

I work out on an eliptical (no impact) about 2x a day, 4x a day. Then I the other 3 days I do toning, strengthening, and stretching...that is also 2x a day. I do include my stretching on the days I am using my eliptical. I also mix it up when the weather is good by walking and that is a good for my husband and I to have some time together and enjoy each others company. I started this in Dec 08 after recovering from the horrible reaction I had to the prednisone I was taking...it has kept me walking. Plus, I have been keeping busy with my garden and canning all that I am picking... I am better when I keep busy and working out, but I also have times where it is very difficult and I have to recharge. ;D

Hey! I say ANY exercise that keeps us moving is a good thing! Chasing kids, kayaking, walking the dog. ANYTHING that gets the blood circulating thru the system!!!!

I mentioned in my last post on Sept. 5th that I was going to start a walking/running exercise program. But I was scared because I ran last month and got really sick afterwards. Well I am happy to say that I attempted it again this week. I ran 10 minutes on Tuesday, 20 minutes on Thursday and today I managed a full half hour. This is a far cry from when I was running long distances but I am so excited that I have been able to run again this week! I find it helping with my recent stomach problems as well as helping me sleep better at night.
