Just wondering if anyone has had this. To my surprise, it was found I have a narrow one. It was decided to go in and widen it. To their surprise, it was much narrower than the swallow test had indicated. I've had it stretched twice, one week apart, with a third one due next week, to get it back to 'normal' size. SD can be one of the causes and I was wondering if any one else has had this.

Hi Grammie,
It's been a long time since I have posted. I just had mine done back in September of last year. It looks though as it may need to be done again. I was told it was because of the Scleroderma.

When rheumy #2 did my workup/baseline stuff they did a swallow test. I think it was somewhat narrowed but not an issue yet. Not a fun day is it and I imagine the stretching process is worse. Also I have run into a few non SDers that have had the same narrowing too.
Antonietta good to see you around again! Hope all is well and you are doing fine except for the esophagus issue. The island looks a bit different this time of year compared to when you were here. Ice on the harbor and a bit of snow.

I've been noticing more feelings of something being 'stuck' in my esophagus, though I just assume it's due to no mobility from too much collagen down there. Wouldn't that be lovely to find out its narrow, too... Guess I'll have a few new questions for my gi guy when I go back in April.

Jeffn, actually the stretching was far less an issue than the test! Sure am glad I had it done!, so worth it!!

That is good news Grammie. Do things feel more normal now?

Take any little improvement you can, Grammie! Good to know you notice a change. Isn't it funny how surgeries and tests we go through are minor in comparison to living with this disease each day?!

How true, how true. And it is always brought up with every doctor I see. "Well, you know this could be the results of SD". "SD makes this a much more (insert whatever word you like!) than those without SD". And other comments like that! Oh well, so be it!
