Well, I've been fooling around with this ulcer on my leg since early June, including a surgical procedure to clean out the wound. My wound care physician is great, but it seems that every new treatment only lasts a short time and then stops working. At my most recent visit, I inquired about hyperbaric treatment and asked if he ever referred patients to it. He said yes, and agreed to let me try it. I was in the process of calling my insurance and making an appointment to see my primary care physician for the referral, when three (3!) different things/'testimonials' occurred to put me on a detour. This detour pointed me to the use of manuka honey...have any of you heard of it? I have used it for four days now on my wound, and it definitely is filling in, even evening out to the level of the one side of the ulcer. The honey has bactericidal properties, as well as draws fluid out of the wound to promote healing. In all honesty, these are some of the same properties as the last ointment I was prescribed by my wound care physician.
I still continue to suffer from significant burning in my lower leg and on top of my foot, as well as pain in my heel. I have increased use of my Neurontin, which does seem to take the edge off. Such a balancing act--this is getting really old!
I will definitely keep all of you posted!!
