Hi everyone, I don't know how many of you deal with dry eyes, dry mouth, nasal passages. Lack of saliva, overly sensitive salivary glands? I do, its Sjogrens. There are ways to stimulate your salivary gland by massage and using lemon drops. Last week I had a block, or backup, every time I ate(sometimes caused by a stone). I went to an ear nose and throat specialist, I learned how to massage or milk the glands here : www.sjogrens.org/files/brochures/Salivary_Glands_Massage.pdfThis is the second time in the last three years or so I got swelling, Keeping the mucous membranes moist is important, eye drops, nasal spray, drinking lots of water, mineral waters may help, I hope everyone is enjoying the summer, I certainly am having fun, trying ;-) Best, Nancy

Although I don't have Sjogren's, I have had those stones and they are no fun! Thankfully, I haven't had problems in a while.

Do you massage/milk your saliva glands? I dont think I have a stone I am finishing up a round of zithromax, and will see the doc on Monday. He is a new guy and really gung ho, which really turns me off. He did a nasal/throat endoscopy. He wanted me to do a hearing test but I said no, not at this time. You know, sometimes we are like gunea pigs. ;-) Nancy

It has been quite a few years for me, and I don't think I did anything special to clear them. By the time I got to the dentist, it had cleared on its own. I do know that for the time the blockage was there, it was very painful. I was never advised to go to an ENT dr., but that was also many years ago, and I imagine there are many newfangled tests they like to do/try these days. If I recall correctly, they said there was a probe of the salivary duct they could do to clear the stone. Good luck with that--not fun!

I do have dry mouth according to the dentist. So I ate lots of life savors and really enjoyed them. However, in 8 months I managed to develop 10 cavities...ugh! All that sugar sitting in my mouth with little saliva able to wash it away. I don't suggest one use life savors to keep the mouth moist!!
I don't have trouble with dry eyes....mine run a lot. Had it checked out twice and it was suggested I have the eye lid 'taken up' with surgery. I've decided I can put up with the runny eyes! I do get interesting comments for folks think I'm crying.
that is my situation. grammie
