I have morphea all over, which from what I understand is just the skin part of scleroderma and its not suppose to affect organs. I don't have raynauds yet. But I wondered what you use for your tight skin. I have noticed my skin getting so tight and so dry, I put on tons of cream but it doesn't seem to help much, I have a humidifier in my room. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sharon

Sharon, The only idea I can offer is that when I first had SD I did a lot of reading like we all do. At the time the advice for lotions was to avoid any skin care products containing collagen. As we have to much collagen it made sense but I don't see much about that subject of late. Why add more of something you have to much of already. At the time I switched to Palmer's cocoa butter formula and it did work better than the product I had used to that point. Also back when rheumy #2 said that cocoa butter products were useful for us SDers He said he had one patient with a shrinking mouth that used to swish cocoa butter around in their mouth for pain relief.

Oh now I hadn't heard that before and I thought I read everything to. But it sure makes sense. I will have to look again, I know I looked for products without alcohol. Thanks jeff.

Hi Sharon, I think I used a cream that had lanolin in it. Now I use just plain old fashion Vaseline. It seems to work for me.

How about coconut oil? I've been reading that it's good for EVERYTHING, evan bacteria in your mouth by swishing it around for 20 minutes.

I agree coconut oil, organic...its amazing and you can do oil pulling (swishing)...its healthy oil..I also would avoid chemicals if possible, though I do use foot lotion try it, you willbe amazed! I use it on my face at bed time, a little goes a long way, you can make it with a drop of lavender oil...for a nice scent. :-)
Nancy in NH..
I have been in the pool and noticed the chlorine, is drying my skin, so Drinking lots of water, I take a B complex vitamin, which is a hair skin and nail formula, I have diffuse SD, SO i don't know ...how much its helping me, though, it has helped with the neuropathy in my feet. Best wishes to you. hope this helps!

How are you making out Izzy? Have they put you on the new meds yet? If so how is that going? The coconut oil might well be a good thing, there appears to be a lot of info on the web lately about it's benefits.
