I take Prilosec OTC, 20mg a day. For you guys who are on a similar med what brand are you using and how much do you take. I am fine with the 20mg and would like to try perhaps a 10mg dose. Any ideas.

I have a RX med of protonics and it is 40 mg. I was taking it at night but my husband's doctor told him to take it a half hour before dinner.(He is on it too but twice a day, half hour before breakfast and a half hour before dinner.) Since I've been doing that, I am much improved!

We went out to dinner last night and had a bit of reflux overnight but not a huge deal. Today I forgot to take my pill at lunch and by three or so my stomach was growling a bit. Still need to take it every day but would like to try 10mg a day. So far I have not found a source.

I have also been prescribed Prilosec 20mg for reflux. I was told this is the lowest dose. My Sclero Specialist told me to take it at night, but when I went to a gastro doctor, he recommended I take it in the morning on an empty stomach. Said it is a time-released medication and should last throughout the day. Who is right? Ha! Prilosec STOPS the stomach from making acid where antacids, like Tums, just neutralizes it. It is also OK to take TUMS or an over-the-counter antacid while on Prilosec. Here is an easy to read website about Prilosec: www.gihealth.com/html/education/drugs/prilosec.htmlThis website says to take the Prilosec in the morning. Jeff, when were you told to take it? Lunchtime???

Nancy I take my Prilosec at noon mostly because of force of habit. When I was taking mino twice a day every day my rheumy wanted me to take mino two hours after food and two hours before food. So I would take my morning mino around 10 AM and then take my Prilosec along with my probiotics at lunch. I don't know if the Prilosec would have conflicted with the mino but I wanted to give the mino every chance I could to work. I only take the mino three days a week now but just continue with my old schedule. The results have been good but as noted above if I don't remember at noon by 3 ish I can feel it. Maybe it is just simply a 24 hour pill and no matter when you take it you are going to feel it after 24 hours if you forget your dose.
On my last rheumy visit, first visit with the new doc, he said that stayin on Prilosec or similar caused a lot less problems than going off it. Still wish I could try a 10mg though.
