Anybody tried this? I have been off 10 days or so and I am wondering what to expect. In my case the jury is still out on this so far.

I would give it a try Jeff and if you become symptomatic go back so not to cause esophageal (sp) damage. I am supposed to take 20mg. 2x daily (am+pm) but most times just take 1 (20mg cap) late afternoon. My gastro once told me to use it faithfully because we are unaware of the reflux at times due to sclero's fibrotic tendencies in the internal tissues.

I'm on it too---protonix which is a different drug doing the same work--- and tried to get off it and was told to stay with it so I have. Would like to come off but since I never felt the reflux but was tested and found it was a definite go so I decided to listen to them and stay on it.

M experiment went just OK. I have been off two weeks and think that in time I might be able to pull it off but right now there is too much going on with personal life and work. I do have a less active stomach than I did the first few days but.. now is not the time. So I began to take the Prilosec again this morning. Over the summer when things calm down I'll maybe try to reduce by taking it every other day, I think that might work.

I take ZEGERID, only 1 a day. I have tried to give it up several times but my symptoms come back within 24 hours.

I was started on PREVACID back in 2000, & am still on it..........Since then due to Insurance Companies I have tried several others, which either did not work as well OR gave me horrible side effects. My Gastro Doc would actually like me on 2 a day, but insurance will not pay, & I can't afford that with my other drugs.......... So for years, I take Prevacid 30mg in the a.m., 20mg of RX Pepcid before Dinner, & 20mg of the Pepcid right before bed...It seems to keep it under control fairly well, but I do have my flare-ups and then I just add a few TUMS in between. Have a nice day all !! Donna

my husband, jeff, has never tried this, but he is on 160 mg. of omeprazole daily (80 mg in the a.m. and 80 mg. in the p.m.). we had to have our doctors contact the insurance company and tell them how ESSENTIAL it was for jeff to be on this dosage. they ended up paying for it jeff has severe GERD (and does all the precautions, including us purchasing an elevated bed), which they think has contributed to the fibrosis in his lungs. his lung capacity is only 46% and his DLCO is only 34%. his capacity has been continually dropping, so he has a big check up next month again with his doctors and testing to see if it has dropped more. possibly rituxan (which insurance doesn't like to cover) or cytoxin. jeff n.......be sure to take all necessary precautions if you are going to try stopping the med again. it's so scary what that reflux can affect.

Hey Fangs - sorry to hear about Jeff's lung issues. With any luck the lung function will have stabilized when He gets his check up. Fingers crossed.
I have not tried to give up the prilosec again, still occupied with my shoulder. Like I said too much going on in Jeff world presently. I wish someone made a 10 MG dose as I am only on 20 mg per day. Thinking that 10 mg might work. I guess I am lucky th20 MG does the trick for me.
Good to hear from you guys - all the best.
