Good morning, scleroderma friends!
Well, we have hit a brutal time of the year with temps at their lowest in a long time in much of the country. My neighborhood temp is 1 degree with little wind to make it even lower--aren't we lucky!
I am doing my best to keep this old body protected from the elements. I will be wearing my full arsenal of layers, and that is to keep me comfortable indoors! Oh well, good day to lay low and maybe bake something to make the house smell good and cozy...
Stay warm and safe!
Christel

Is cold here today, not as cold as your area but cold and windy. We had snow Friday and again last night. Not too much but slippery today. We are supposed to top out in the low 20s this week for daytime highs. Yesterday morning we were in VT. and it was 3 but with no wind and bright sunshine. It was very nice out but I did not stay out too long either.
Like Christel says stay warm out there!

brrrr brrrr chatter chatter.....it's about 10 degrees and dropping!...we had d dusting of snow last night which made things really slippery for a time but dodged another storm, I think the cape (jeff) got worse than we did!....this cold is terrible, but I have been keeping my layers and avoiding too many purple fingers!...it really helps to keep the core warm...
stay warm and safe! Nancy

Well the weather in in our area, the northeast, is supposed to moderatre this coming week. That should make it a bit easier for SDers in this area. I hope the weather in your area is warmer too. I'm sure the cold will return soon enough as it is only Jan BUT I'll take what I can get. The electric gloves god quite a work out during this cold snap, they really work well for me. Unfortunately with my shoulder injury snowboarding is out so the few times I have been up north I have been condo bound. so my suppply of handwarmers/toe warmers is holding up well.

The harbor is starting to freeze up, not a lot of ice yet. With ice the fast boat, catamaran-no cars, can't run as the hulls are aluminum and if they hit ice at speed the hull will be punctured. If it is cold for long enough Nantucket sound will freeze up solid all the way across, 25 miles worth, and the traditional boats can't run either. That it rare but I have seen it occur several times since I have been here. Even if we get a three days or so of above freezing temps the ice goes pretty quickly. Salt water ice is a lot different than fresh water ice, really kind of weird. Back in the 70s it froze up several years in a row and one winter we had not had boats for a week or so. In this case they fly in essentials and the national news outlets got a hold of it and came down to film stories. They were kind of upset there were not throngs of starving islanders greeting the planes, not enough drama for the news guys I guess. Maybe they were expecting a Stalingrad sort of situation. Probably not too many of you are interested but I just wanted to bring up what I consider kind of a unique aspect of island living. I think everywhere one can live has situations particular to their area and I find these different conditions interesting, island life is just my realm and what I am familiar with.

It is a beautiful sunny morning here today! Of course, I haven't been outdoors yet, as my husband took the dogs out and brought the Sunday paper in... We are supposed to get into the high 50's on Tuesday!!! After that, it is back to usual temps for January and winter in Michigan. Again, as I have said before, I don't want time to go by any faster than it already does, but these cold months can move along a little more quickly than the others. Just think, January is almost over. If we can hold out and hang on for a few (ok, about 8!) more weeks, the calendar says it will be spring...!! just sayin'... Christel

Windy warm evening tonight. I wanted to get out in the warm weather before the rain hit so went out for a very brief walk in the dark. Oh, it was nice not to be bundled up. My daily ritual is to come down stairs and get the hand warmers going. Then they are ready for whatever I decided to do .....and warm my pant pockets in the meantime.!
In the evening I use the cattle corn 'pillow' Nancy made me several years back. Well, I cooked it too long in the microwave and had the smell of burnt corn for most of the night. So I opened the bag and found I had burnt a number of the kernels! Dumped them out, Washed the bag....it sure needed it...and off to Agway to get more, but now the bag was wet so had to wait a day for it to dry! One night without warm sheets was enough for me!!! Now I don't heat it as long in the microwave.:-)

More snow this morning. Not particularly cold but it is supposed to flurry all day. Yesterday was high 20s with bright blue sky and little wind. I walked out side for the first time in a long time. For the past few months I have been hooked on the treadmill as I can read my kindle while getting in the walk. It was just too nice yesterday had to get out. What is everybody else up to?

Single digits at night and teens during the daytime, forcasted this week...just taking this opportunity to accomplish indoor projects, new recipes and read. Reduced my work hours until it warms a bit. Hope everyone stays warm and as healthy as possible!

I had a most enjoyable weekend .....inside....watching all the activity on the frozen lake. Saturday the ice was clear of snow. Though it be windy, there were a few brave soles who were on the ice....playing with the dogs, ice fishing, skating, dirt bikes. One went skating with the wind from one end of the lake to the other, in the middle of the lake, (about 1.5 miles) letting the wind blow him. He skated the shore line back!
Then Sunday was the fishing derby. We counted over 55 cars/trucks parked on the side of the road as we came home from church. The ice was full of fishermen and families, ice houses of all types of structures, and various means of transportation....didn't see a car but did see a tractor among the dirt bikes, snow shoes, walkers, sleds, snowmobiles. Watched ice skaters and cross country skiers. There was a little dusting of snow coming down all day but no wind. There was so much to enjoy watching!
Now today, a work day for most (it really is nice to be retired!) the wind has blown much of the snow off the ice so there are many places free enough to skate almost any place one desires...but the wind is a cold wind. Wouldn't be surprised to see the school children on it in another hour.
So with a cup of tea, hand warmers in the pocket, wool clothes on, I'm happy to see the world out there!

It has been a wintery February but lots of fun too. SO much activity going on out on the lake. WE did get really dumped with snow for three consecutive weekends. Fortunately, it did warm up above freezing for a few days during the week.
I did brave myself outside to walk the street but it was really too windy a cold and my hands sure felt it!
Now, the next to the last day of the month it has poured rain! Glad it wasn't the snow.
For you who don't know where I live.....southern NH not far from the ocean but in the line for either snow or rain when the storms come through.
