Hi everybody! I have a question... Have any of you ever been told by your Dr. that when a person with SD has high Chlolesterol that it is especially dangerous for them because our veins are so small ? In other words we sure do not have any room in our veins for cholesterol. The reason I am asking this is because the last time I had mine checked it was 236! I am a small person only weigh 115 lbs. Sooooo...he put me on medicine for it and told me to come back in in 2 months to have it checked again so I did that and it went down to 168! I was thrilled but naturally there are side effects to the medicine...on the liver but so far mine is ok. Has anyone in here ever been told that by their Dr.? It makes perfect sense to me since we do have small veins. Thank you, Shirley

Cubby- You are one of the lucky ones...be thankful... Thanks for your reply.... I have no idea why mine is/was high because I eat foods that are very good for me. If a person who has SD that also has high cholesterol...I feel that they need to try to get it down because of our small veins... Shirley

I have been on statin drugs for a while, but in the last few months my HDL(bad Cholestral) has gone up. My cardiologist increased my statin dosage and mentioned it could have something to do with the sclero. Well I saw my rheumie this morning and asked him about this and he said the same thing about the blood vessels being small and contributing to the problem. Sammie

Thank you Sammie for sharing your opinion on this... I guess my Dr. was right... It is something we all need to think about. We sure do not want our veins getting clogged up since our veins are so small. Hugs, Shirley

check out my new message just posted! Red Yeast Rice apparently is helping people with cholesterol & it's not a processed statin drug! How funny ... I didn't read before I posted or I would have put it here! LOL Michele

Try adding a good quality fish oil 4 a day and a CoQ10 2 a day. I would get them from whole foods store. They both will help lower Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, triglycerides open up the blood vessels and help with joint pain I don't have any problems with Cholesterol but I have noticed all my numbers drop. I even have to back off of the Fish Oil because My BP gets low. Hope that helps
