Just curious how and when you take your daily mino dosages. My Doc wants me to take it two hours after food and two hours before food. My morning dose is easy to take that way. My evening dose is a little harder time wise. Also what do you take your mino dose with?
We have people from all over the country so we are talking different docs, I just wondered how your docs recommend you take your mino or what ever antibiotic you may use.

mine is first thing in the morning ...before breakfast....of course it's tetracycline....250mg...so...not a big dosage but it's enough so that I take it about an hr before breakfast.....I only take one pill per day ...when I was on minocycline...I took it morning...and at nite...before bed...so the drugs had time while my body was resting...

I take my morning dose two hours after breakfast. I don't always wait a full two hours before I eat though. Sometimes just an hour to an hour and a half. I take my second dose two hours after dinner. I also have to take thyroid medication in between lunch and dinner on an empty stomach so I find I just eat 3 meals and never have time to snack since everything must be taken on an empty stomach.

Whiskey?? LOL. That's one thing I could never drink. Just plain old boring water for me.

I ask because when I went on mino almost three years ago my stomach was in rough shape due to GAVE. I tried to take the mino with water but found that I did better with diet soda. I have my morning pill with that for the most part. Worked so far.

So glad you brought this topic up. I usually take my syntheroid at about 5:30 AM. Some days I eat a glutten free protien bar with Tums 30 minutes later and mino 2-3 hours later, 2 hrs. after that IF I can wait that long I take probiotics lunch supplements and other meds. Then I take my 2nd dose of mino about 2 hrs. after dinner. BUT...Some days I take the mino 30 minutes after my syntheroid and breakfast 2 hrs. later. I always drink lots of water with it. I've been trying to give myself a 4 hr. window of not eating with the mino, however- christine2 over on inspire said that wasn't necessary. But I've read where some Dr.s recommend it so I thought I would. My doc doesn't recomend anything since he doesn't believe in it. I think I'm going to change his mind! Lynn

I take mino 2 hours after breakfast and at least an hour before some other food item. The second one is two hours after supper. I try to take them with water but my stomach...oh, it isn't always happy. So I've gone to mixing juice of 1/4 cup to a cup of water and drink that. It often works but not always.

Over these holidays I sure found it hard to take 2hrs after and 1hr before eating! It didn't seem to work out to be 10hrs apart some days....but I did get them in! With everyone here and all the food it sure wasn't easy!

Hummmm I see Dr T in March and he said he was going to change it then but commented on another antibiotic. I'd go for once a day. Think I'll put that in my note pad and ask him about it!

If the soda works you might try mineral water, it has the fizzies also and that may be why the soda works for you. Just a thought.

Thanks but mineral water did not really work either. Its all OK though as the diet soda has not seemed to have any ill effect on my mino dose and condition. It is working very well.

I took MINOCIN 100 mg 2 x a day. About 6 months ago, I lowered it to 100 mg 1 x per day. So far, so good. I take it in the morning and when I took 2 pills, I took the other one in the evening. I take it with flavored water from Costco.
I did learn that you are supposed to take it 2 hours before or after DAIRY products. I am not always good with that. Part of the reason is that the dairy could cause the Minocin to be less effective (I never noticed) but it attaches to minerals and will turn your bones black. For anyone who ever had surgery, I am sure your doc told you your bones were dark green or black. Mine did, but I already knew that. Also, take it alone, as in NOT with other meds. Other than dairy, I often take it right before or right after I eat and no problem.
