your taste buds going beserk on one or both sides? I mean it's painful at times when I first bite into food. the other day I awoke with one side of my jaw spasming (sp?)..it last for about 1/2 hour and then let go. I do wonder if this is a Sclero Issue as I noticed the sensitivity at the onset of all the face tightness/pulling. ...here is a rather embarrassing question...but what the heck if I can ask you all, who can I ask... Do you buttocks tendons get sore, ache? feel tight. ..believe it or not I am trying to excercise and stretch that area as much as I can ...I have slowed down on my walking and am trying to get back into it...bundle up gloves and mittins, ear muffs and a hat...it's not a very far walk but I do notice that I am able to do more, the more I do..KWIM??

Nancy are you talking about taste buds as in food tastes funny or jaw and tooth pain? I have never had any problems with food tasting oddly but when my SD was active I my teeth moved a bit and I had TMJ. In addition I had what I called nerve pain in my jaw and around my mouth similar to the shooting pains I had in my lower arms, wrists, lower legs and ankles. Now that things have settled down my teeth are back where they were and I only have shooting pain once in a while and it passes quickly and has no where near the intensity of before. Last winter I had pain in my lower jaw area on the right side. It was an on and off type of deal and I was curious about the cause. One weekend I had LOTS of pain and went to the dentist on a Monday. Turns out it was a abscess under a molar. Went for a root canal and they found the tooth cracked and could not save it. Unfortunately I am experiencing a similar situation on the left side at this point and hope it is not another abscess in the making. With any luck you are not dealing with an abscess. Do you suffer from tooth problems usually?
As to the tight buttocks question I am told on a regular basis that I have great legs and a tight tusch (sp?) ;D But on a serious note when I was first getting back to activity a few years ago, after the mino began to kick in, I found that my hips and later my shoulders were very tight. When I began my walks again my hips would feel almost well unattached, very loose etc, kind of hard to explain. The next day all would be normal again. It felt like my exercise had stretched my tendons out and they had not snapped back like a normal persons. That has all passed but I do tend to get very tight if I don't go to the gym or have been doing a lot of desk stuff at work. Quite frankly I am better if I am moving. My knees are quite a bit less flexible than before SD no pain but they just don't bend like they did. Living in a resort area we are able to join a very nice health club that is part of a larger summer tennis sort of club but only from Oct thru middle of May. Because I can not hit the gym in the summer even though I consider myself active I find I am somewhat less flexible than in the winter months when I can work out. I really have to work at it to keep flexible. My theory is that the collagen has effected my tendons and they just do not have the snap they used to. If I can keep them stretched through exercise I am ok but if not moving they become much less supple and stiff. I don't know if any of this has any bearing on your stiffness but perhaps it does, maybe try some lower back exercises and see if you can loosen things up.

No jeff...the jaw problem is like...when you bite into something tart and you get a strong twang in your jaw (tastebuds)...mine is a strong spasm...sometimes when I eat regular stuff...ketchup, mustard..I think it's a muscle thing..hypersensitivity perhaps My buttocks does not look tight (or no one tells me THAT )..LOL..it feels it though...I do notice that when I walk on a regular basis...it's less stiff...I think it is the tendons (hardening) or shortening...now I understand why exercise, or at least stretching is so necessary, especially to us and other with muscle/tendon issues keep on keeping on!

oh boy....this one oughta be good..... when mine was active....I had aweful tasting events....sometimes my favorite foods would trip out and taste terrible....I really became a chocoholic cuz that was one of the few things that tasted ok still..for breakfast the only thing that stayed down was a ham and cheese omelette....believe it or not...to this day I eat a ham and cheese omelette almost every morning...no wonder my cholesterol is going crazy..... there are still some foods I can't eat due to my taste buds going nuts on me..
as for a tight butt....I like tight butts on girls.....but when I was at my worst...i always felt like I was walking funny......kinda short stepping instead of a normal stride...I'd try and relax and my stride would open up and then after awhile it would shorten again....now i have to stretch but I'm just too danged tired to mess with it........but I need to really do some stretching and working out.....

Huh I don't recall the wild taste bud phase, I guess I did not have that one. It does not sound like fun.
Yeah I do think that if we are able we should keep moving. I know I feel better when I am pushing things some. Nancy is there a gym that is reasonable in your area? That may be an option, from what I understand for you guys in the real world there are more options than we have here.

Hi Nancy, Can't really comment on the questions you asked but do want to say that I'm glad you are getting out and walking. Exercise is so important, whether we have SD or not. Yes, Steve, as we get older we need to stretch....and I don't do enough of it either I am hoping the tightness isn't SD related but maybe it is.... Anyway, keep walking Nancy! Even if it is just a short walk. Ok, now...get bundled up and walk (I'm talking to myself at the moment!!) GRAMMIE

Regarding the taste buds, no, I am one of those who never lost their sense of taste. That is how I gained 30 lbs.
Everything was tight on me for awhile, meaning muscles, etc. As most of you know, I do water aerobics 5 to 7 days a week. Have been doing that since August, 2006. Exercise is sooo important. For me, tho, the water REALLY makes a difference in how I feel.

Been walking too. Found a neighbor to walk with which adds to the fun. You might see if a neighbor would walk with you. It also helps keep it a bit "more often"

YES, my mouth is painful at times with the first bite. I thought it was more with the saliva being released or something. Sorry I have not been on here for a long time-just forgot.

Yes Joy...sometimes it hurts to touch my jaw in a certain place...hyper sensitive...weird...some of these things the docs just looks at you with nothing to say! Does anyone else experience doctors with blank looks in puzzlement ..?

Pay attention to your teeth! Doctors never tell us that. I know so many in remission going thru a lot of dental work. In fact, I am going thru a lot right now too!

Hi Nancy, Is there sores in the mouth? Do you know about rinsing with 1 tsp salt to 8 ounces water? It helps keep the sores down. Also, there is baby stuff one can get at the drug store that one puts on baby's teeth as they are cutting teeth. That might help too. NOt sure if that is what you are talking about or the jaw bone kind of thing. Anyway, just an idea....
